The first online seminar for safeguarding ICH in the Asia-Pacific region was held on 13 December 2022
As an initial programme offered by ‘Asia-Pacific Research Forum for ICH Safeguarding’, a new platform launched by IRCI in this fiscal year, the first online seminar was held on 13 December 2022.
Ms Masami Iwasaki (Hokkai-Gakuen University, Japan) as a lecturer brought up a very important theme for the research for safeguarding ICH of ‘Community Involvement in ICH Research’, based on her research experiences focusing on the Ainu foodways. Subsequently, the commentator Mr Simione Sevudredre (Sau-Vaka, Culture NGO, Fiji) broadened the discussion by introducing his own research experiences within indigenous communities in Fiji.
Recording of the seminar will be made available on the IRCI website and ‘Asia-Pacific Research Forum for ICH Safeguarding’ Facebook group.
The second and third seminars are to be held in March 2023, with the following themes:
2nd seminar: ICH in emergencies
3rd seminar: Learing from the initiatives of good safeguarding practices in the 2003 Convention
