| Description | The study showed how firmly in the not so distant past, embroidery was associated with family ritual practice, and the everyday and festive lives of the people. Its patterns embodied ideas about the magic of fertility they also provide an opportunity to evaluate which sacred ideas were important and stable in the public consciousness - protection of newlyweds, procreation and protection of natural forces, and ancient heavenly gods and totems ensure the well-being of a new family. The monograph is a study of traditional embroidery of Uzbekistan in all the diversity of its types and local features of the ornamental style. The main attention is paid to revealing the meaning of compositions and patterns. By identifying the semantics of decor, the author tries to read the “texts of culture” are hidden under the layers of centuries. At the same time, changes in the interpretations and meaning of ornaments that occurred over time are not lost from the sight. A connection is established between embroidery, cult, and religious ideas that prevailed at various stages of the development of society. Particular attention is paid to the issues of artistic originality of embroidery of sedentary agricultural centers and embroidered products of semi-nomadic tribes. The role of embroidery in ritual practice is considered, and the problem of foreign cultural artistic parallels is touched upon.
