Since ancient times and throughout many centuries, Bukhara has been admired for its monuments of architecture, prominent people - scientists, peculiar culture, applied arts and workmanship. During the years of independence, the contemporary masters continue to create unique and extraordinary examples of applied arts and folk crafts by preserving the past glory of ancient Bukhara and traditions of old masters. Legal acts on the development and improvement of folk applied art and handicraftsmanship have been adopted. In particular, according to the Decree PD №1741 of the first President of the Republic of Uzbekistan as of March 31, 1997 "About measures for further development of folk applied art and craftsmanship with the assistance of the Republic” the Union of national masters, handicraftsmen and artists of the Republic of Uzbekistan - "Hunarmand” was formed. On the basis of the Decree PD №4589 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov as of December 26, 2013 the privileges presented to handicraftsmen were prolonged till January 1, 2017. This decree presented a wide opportunity to handicraftsmen to make their own infrastructure and develop economic sector. Thanks to the state support Bukhara masters participate and exhibit in numerous international exhibitions and expositions, win prizes, consequently making their vigorous contribution to glorifying the prestige of workmanship and applied arts of Uzbekistan and taking commendable place in the world community. A remarkable example is the fact that more than 100 members of the union who actively participated in various international exhibitions and expositions conducted in the USA, Europe and the CIS countries were highly appreciated and awarded praiseworthy prizes. According to the decision №36 of the public fund for support of NGO and other civil society institutions, and a Parliamentary Commission for administration of the funds under the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan of September 15, 2016 “About support of the projects directed to informing the general public on achievements of the republic during the years of independence in various spheres of life”, the 6th contest of government funds was held, and among the projects offered by regional non-governmental organizations "the center of craftsmanship " (44-12/60), the suggested project “Бухоро ҳунармандчилиги дунё нигоҳида” (Craftsmanship of Bukhara in the vision of the world society) was recognized as the best of the proposed projects of the Parliamentary Commission and won a funding of 25000000 sums. This book is dedicated to the contemporary masters of workmanship and applied arts of Bukhara, who brought development and vigorous contribution to folk art and craftsmanship during the years of independence. By means of pictures and illustrations it assists as an implement for the future of the younger generation.
