Description
This publication was made within the framework of a UNESCO project with the financial support of the Government of the Republic of Korea, which aims to revive, develop and popularize the traditional crafts of Uzbekistan, as well as contribute to improving living standards through employment and capacity building of the local population. The purpose of the publication is to present the experience and skills of the leading artisans of Uzbekistan, preserving traditional art and adapting traditions to the realities of modern conditions. It tells about the history and development of the applied arts of Uzbekistan at the time of the country's independence in 1991, and also provides analytical information about traditional crafts with an innovative approach. This edition presents a deep understanding and professional characterization of the work of today's Uzbek masters, using new aesthetics and design in their traditional art. It is important to note that this is the only monograph that comprehensively explores modern and traditional technology, as well as the creative experience of famous potters, embroiderers, chasers, blacksmiths, who own the secrets of the Uzbek traditional craft. The publication is based on the field research of academician Akbar Rakhimov, who collected information about each master. In the book, the author compares the technique and skill of craftsmen from different regions of Uzbekistan. UNESCO expresses the hope that this book will serve as a practical guide for artisans, cultural workers and students, and will also be of interest to the public, thus contributing to the preservation, development and polarization of traditional crafts in Uzbekistan.
