Description
The base of the Institute of History and Ethnology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences were laid in the early Institute of Science, the first scientific institution of the new era in Mongolia, established in 1921.
The Institute has published 10 volumes of field research reports conducted by S. Badamkhatan and G. Tserenkhand since 1960 in the field of ethno-cultural research of Mongolians under the name "Ethnological Field Research Materials", which is a major work of intangible heritage of Mongolia's many ethnic groups.
According to the decision of the Government of August 14, 2019, the Institute of History and Ethnology, Center for Ethnology and Intangible Cultural Heritage, Journalism, Facts and Information Center, Department of Ancient History, Department of Mongolian Empire, Department of Medieval History, Department of Recent History, It is operating with 6 units, namely Social and Cultural Anthropology.
From 1959 to 1997, the Institute of History and Ethnology published a series of research papers called "Studia ethnograpica" and "Studia Ethnologica" from 1998, which became the main ethnographic publications of Mongolia.
Also, traditional ethnographers work in the institute, and the "Museum of Ethnography" has been established at the institute.
