| Description |
The Republic of Tajikistan has many historical, cultural, and natural monuments, which are evidence of its ancient land and civilization. Along with castles and fortresses, mosques, madrasas, towers, and mausoleums of religious personalities, as well as cemeteries, caves, mountains and peaks, springs, rocks, inscriptions, huge trees, and other cultural and natural objects, there are many in the country, each of which includes oral history, legends, beliefs, pilgrimage manners, and other traditions. They are interesting not only for the people of those places but also for tourists and scientists. In the Republic of Tajikistan, there are more than 3,000 material monuments and natural sites, which have different histories and are considered priceless treasures of the country. Researchers of the Research Institute of Culture and Information in 2023, in the frame of project "Research of intangible cultural heritage related to historical-cultural monuments and sacred places of Tajikistan" (2021-2025), had several fieldworks in the cities of Khujand, Konibodom, Buston, and Ayni district of Sughd region Khorasan and Abdurrahmani Jami districts of Khatlon region and Sangvor district for collecting materials and studying historical-cultural monuments and natural sites. During the trip, they filled out inventory questionnaires for each historical, cultural, and natural monument. This book is the first issue of a new book series called "Cultural Heritage in Tajikistan" and is a kind of continuation of the 12 issues of the book series "Intangible Culture of the Tajik People.". The difference between these two books is that the new book also includes tangible cultural heritage. This book consists of 5 sections the titles of the sections are as follows: Section 1. Oral tradition Section 2. Ceremonies and rituals Section 3. Knowledge and experiences Section 4. Historical, cultural, and natural monuments and Section 5. Traditional professions and crafts. |
