| Description | A collection of 50 popular music songs, mostly composed by Papua New Guineans. Although primarily meant to be a primer for the teaching of guitar chords using local materials, complete texts in the original language and English translations are provided, as well as guitar chords and the recordings upon which the transcriptions were made. As such, these songs, particularly popular from the mid-1970s until the mid-1980s, offer an excellent overview of the type of popular music being produced by young people and enjoyed by people of all ages. In many cases, the meaning of the vernacular texts is revealed to listeners who otherwise would not have been aware of such details. |
