| Description | Originally published in 1978, this study highlights changes brought about by the Australian government (as the colonial power), social and political changes during Christian evangelization, and the suppression of traditional ceremonies. Although focused on the Bosavi area of Southern Highlands Province, the areas of concern are widely applicable to many other parts of the country. Noted changes concern attitudes towards witchcraft, violence, the ceremonial hunting lodge, traditional ceremonies, mortuary customs, local aspirations towards development, Christian missions and missionaries, and evangelical intimidation, concluding with an assessment of the present situation and thoughts for the future. |
