Description
Kurikai and Semanese are traditional dances originating from Maubisse, in the Ainaro municipality. These dances demonstrate a traditional way of welcoming guests, whether they are from government institutions or special visitors to the community. These dances are accompanied by chants that convey messages of empathy and warmth toward the visitors, aiming to make them feel comfortable and welcomed. An example of a message in the chants is, "We welcome you with our hearts. We want you to feel comfortable among us so that when you leave, you will take the best memories of our reception with you. You will remember only the good times, not the bad ones. We hope this makes you want to come and visit us again."
