Description
UMA-KELUK (AD-KELUK)/Source of Blessing and Protections-The sacred house is believed to be the source of life. Source of blessings and protection. The Adkeluk Sacred House, of the Isni ethnolinguistic group, is an ancient house built since time immemorial. The house has three main sacred objects that are worshipped as the owner of the house and protector of its generations.
Therefore, before any generation of the house goes far away or to war, they must pray to these objects for protection. An animal must be killed as an offering to obtain blessings and protection. The elder of the house then anoints the younger generation with blessings and protection from the Almighty. For the generations living far away, the elders will send blessings and protection by giving them the bua and malus (Areca catechu and Betle piper) from the ritual performed in the sacred house. This practice is very common among the Timorese, as they have the same belief in nature and the Almighty through their Sacred Houses and the sacred objects inside them.
