Description
Mosek, Fatu-bosa or Ai-to’os is a circular structure with a vertical wooden or stone trunk erected in the middle, built in front of the Sacred House of a lineage of people. The Sacred House of the Lakoto people has two mosek, each placed at the front and back of the house. Mosek is built as a place of surveillance for access to the sacred house. Anyone entering or leaving the holy house had to show respect to the mosek as a sign of asking for permission. The generation that would go away for study or work reasons had to ask for permission from the sacred house and permission from the mosek before leaving. It is a sign that the blessing of the deity worshiped in the sacred house will accompany the person on his journey and protect him from all harm.
