| Description | This report is based on the UNESCO LINKS project "Strengthening Indigenous Knowledge and Traditional Resource Management through Schools: A Pilot Partnership Involving Local Communities, Teachers, Resource Managers, and Cultural Specialists". It gives a brief background of the traditional systems in place that have been passed down through generations to ensure that resources are always available. It looks at marine resource management and the types of traditional tools used, including fish hooks and nets, as well as the types of marine species that are harvested, for what purpose, and during which harvest seasons. The report tries to show how, traditionally, communities interact with their environment both physically and spiritually. |
